Saturday, January 28, 7:30 pm Tesserae Programme: Mix & Masque

Unlike opera, English masques were not unified artworks: they were collaborative and featured a mix of spectacle. Luckily, while plot lines may have been thin, the music was spectacular. Tesserae has created its own modern-day masque, piecing together our favorite tunes and selections from original masques, and combining them with dramatic readings to create a ‘meta-masque.’ Names of collaborating actors will be announced shortly. Featuring music by Purcell, Locke, Blow, Lawes, and more! The Contrapuntal Recital Hall, Brentwood. The Contrapuntal Recital Hall is a private music space in Brentwood. The address to the venue will be provided upon purchase of tickets. General Admission $30, Seniors & SCEMS $25, Students $10. Tickets are available through brownpapertickets.

We are delighted to announce our most exciting season yet, which will include an intimate performance of early opera at the Doheny Mansion as well as a large-scale majestic performance of music by Gabrieli and Monteverdi!

On January 28th, Tesserae presents its very own modern-day masque, a performance formed of our favorite tunes and selections from original masques. We will be joined by actors for a unique semi-staged concert featuring music by Purcell, Locke, Blow, Lawes and more!
On March 30th, we will join forces with students from the Mount Saint Mary’s University music department for a performance of works by Francesca Caccini and her contemporaries. This beautiful repertoire will be performed in the stunning Pompeiian Room of the Doheny Mansion.

The grand finale of the season is a return to the roots of Tesserae. Our very first performance in 2013 was a giant polychoral spectacle of music by Giovanni Gabrieli, featuring organs, brass, strings and singers. This time we will include works by Claudio Monteverdi alongside some of the most beloved compositions of Gabrieli. This performance is truly not to be missed!
