Halona weekend

Join us on June 4, 5, and 6, 2010 for a special musical retreat in beautiful Idyllwild!

OCRS is once again having a special weekend retreat at Halona, a lodge in Idyllwild owned by Pomona College.  Thanks to Pomona College alumna Tish Kimball, we have secured the use of Halona for June 4, 5, and 6, 2010. This will not be a workshop—but a chance to get together informally and play music for fun with friends amid pine trees and fresh air.  We will have group playing, or you can hike, shop in town, or just relax.  Halona has a large room with a fireplace for group playing, a kitchen, a deck for sun bathing, dormitory-style accommodations, and three bathrooms.

All OCRS members, spouses, partners, significant others, and friends—recorder playing or nonrecorder playing—are welcome.  You can stay overnight on Friday and/or Saturday, or come up just for the day on Saturday.  Feel free to come and go as you please.  There is much to do in Idyllwild—hiking, shopping, art galleries, restaurants—all walking distance from Halona.

This year, we will again have a general playing schedule (although you can drop in or out at any time), approximately as follows:

Friday, June 4:  7:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Playing

Saturday, June 5: 

Sunday, June 6: 

You can arrive anytime you like after 5 p.m. on Friday or anytime on Saturday. All playing levels are welcome!                         

The fee is only $30 per person if you stay overnight Friday and/or Saturday (if you stay both Friday and Saturday nights, it’s still only $30 per person), and $10 per person if you come up just for the day on Saturday

When:  Friday, June 4 through Sunday, June 6, 2008.  You can arrive anytime after 5 p.m. on Friday, June 4.  Plan to leave by early afternoon on Sunday, June 6 at the latest.

Food:  The fee includes food for snacks/drinks on Friday night; breakfast/brunch, lunch, snacks, and drinks on Saturday; and breakfast on Sunday.  We will try to accommodate dietary needs and restrictions.  Dinner on Friday is on your own.  Dinner on Saturday is “on your own” (i.e., not included with the fee) but we will organize a group dinner at a local restaurant. 

Accommodations:  Those who wish to can sleep over at Halona.  Halona is rustic, but comfortable.  It has mattresses to spread on the floors in dorm-style living, four beds, and several sofas.  There are three bathrooms.  The beds will be reserved for those who most need them.  If you stay in Halona, you will need sleeping bags and/or warm blankets. 

Cost:  $30 per person if you stay one or two nights at Halona, $10 per person if you stay in town or drive up for the day.  We also ask that you help with chores and cleaning up.

Music:  We will play a variety of music for recorders and broken consort.  Feel free to bring whatever music you would like the group to play.  All playing levels and all early instruments are welcome.

Where: Idyllwild is in the San Jacinto Mountains on California Highway 243, about a 2 hour drive east of central Orange County. 

Be Sure to Bring:  Toiletries, TOWELS, sleeping bag/bedding, warm clothing, musical instruments, music stands.
